How Does the Laser Work?

The laser is an invisible, intense beam of light that can be focused to a pinpoint and used instead of a scalpel. Because the laser seals blood vessels as it cuts, bleeding is almost nonexistent.

Is the Procedure Done in the Hospital?

No. Laser surgery is performed in our fully equipped, office-based surgical suite. Following surgery you can go home or to a hotel to recover in comfort. We will ask you to return for a follow-up visit in three days.

How Long does the Procedure Take?

The actual laser procedure takes only 20 minutes per eye (one-third less time than the older method). However, we ask you to spend about half a day in our outpatient facility, usually a morning. This is to fully recover from the light sedation.

When Can I Return to Work and Social Activities?

Since the laser method causes minimal swelling or bruising as compared to the nonlaser methods, most of our patients can return to normal activities after a weekend. You may also apply eye make-up after this time.

What About Stitches or Scarring?

No stitches are needed when the laser method is performed on the lower eyelids, resulting in faster healing. There is no visible scarring for the lower eyelids.

On upper eyelids you may see a thin, light-colored scar, which is concealed in the lid crease. This scar may be visible for several weeks or months, but only when the eyes are closed and the lids stretched. Under normal conditions, and especially with light eye shadow, the scars are not visible.

Will it Hurt?

No. Laser procedures are remarkably pain free. To help you relax, however, the procedure is performed under light sedation and a local anesthetic or under local anesthetic alone.

How Much Does it Cost?

Although fees vary depending on each individual case, typically our fee ranges from $2,500 to $4,900. We will discuss the costs for your particular procedure during our initial consultation.

Will Insurance Ever Cover the Procedure?

Occasionally insurance companies pay for upper eyelid correction if the excess skin impairs vision. Lower lid correction is never covered. Because policies among insurance companies vary widely, we recommend you check with your company directly.

Why Laser Eyelid Surgery?

Patients who want to have excess skin and bags removed from around their eyes are choosing laser eyelid surgery over the older surgical method. Lasers offer patients many advantages, including less bruising and swelling, faster recovery and fewer complications. The final cosmetic results are also better.

Why is UltraPulse-5000 Laser Eyelid Surgery Superior to Alternative Procedures?

It is an ACCURATE, PRECISE TECHNIQUE. The Laser directs a beam of carbon dioxide light to a precise point on the upper or lower eyelid. Short-duration pulses of intense energy allow for greater surgical precision. Deep incisions associated with non-laser eyelid surgery are avoided. You'll experience an accurate removal of lines or sags for a more radiant appearance.

Previously eyelid surgery was done without a laser. With the old technique bleeding was the cause of bruising and swelling. This is practically eliminated with the laser. The laser procedure is safer, and allows for a faster return to normal activities.
