Botulinum Toxins

Made from clostridium botulinum bacterium, botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin, meaning it affects nerve cells. Since its discovery back in the late 1800's, botulinum toxin has been found to be helpful in treating everything from facial spasms and excessive sweating, to difficulty swallowing and TMJ syndrome. It's also been found to smooth expression lines.

Dr. Narins has been involved in detailed research on the cosmetic uses of botulinum toxin over her years in practice. Patients travel to her office from all parts of the country to take advantage of her specialized knowledge and expertise.

You can find botulinum toxin in BOTOX® Cosmetic and in Dysport®. Currently, only BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport are approved by the FDA for cosmetic purposes, specifically in the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows (glabella) in people ages 18 to 65. We offer our "off-label" botulinum toxin as an alternative to BOTOX Cosmetic treatments in our White Plains, NY practice.

Injectables containing botulinum toxin are not facial fillers. Rather than adding volume, they help men and women achieve a more youthful look by blocking the nerve impulses and relaxing the muscles that when contracted result in expression lines. An allergy test is not required prior to receiving an injectable containing botulinum toxin. Injectables made from clostridium botulinum bacterium are considered temporary, as results last less than 1 year, with most patients experiencing smoother skin for 3 to 6 months.
